Bake Hardenable Steel |
(english) A cold-rolled, low-carbon sheet steel used for automotive body panel applications. Because of the steel’s special processing, it has good stamping and strength characteristics and after paint is baked on, improved dent resistance. |
Blue Annealing |
(english) Heating hot rolled ferrous sheet in an open furnace to a temperature within the transformation range and then cooling in air, in order to soften the metal. The formation of a bluish oxide on the surface is incidental. |
Breakout |
(english) An accident caused by the failure of the walls of the hearth of the furnace resulting in liquid iron or slag (or both) flowing uncontrolled out of the blast furnace. |
Brinell Hardness Test |
(english) A common standard method of measuring the hardness of materials. The smooth surface of the metal is subjected to indentation by a hardened steel ball under pressure. The diameter of the indentation, in the material surface, is then measured by a microscope and the hardness value is read from a chart or determined by a prescribed formula. |
Bruise |
(english) A mark transferred to the strip surface from a defective process roll. Similar to dent or punchmark. |
Discrete settling |
(Environmental Engineering) Settling in which individual particles settle independently, neither agglomerating or interfering with the settling of the other particles present. This occurs in waters with a low concentration of particles. |
